5 June 2008 it seems most of the blogging that we do is over on Shawns design blog, design in dublin?, but the seemingly neverending pipeline is soon to burst forth with some new website stuff for this place, lots of new pictures and a few other things that you can see when it all finally goes live. But just to prove that we're not just learning how wonderful it is to ride horses or to have your sky+ fixed, here's a few of our photos from the past month. Won't be putting up the new wedding photos just yet, but they'll be up on theirishweddingphotographers.com soon enough....
3 March 2008 - take out your spleen for nothing....
there are constant discussions amongst photographers about whether one should work for free or on the promise of getting paying work in teh future. Here's two opinions on the matter.
20 January 2008
Ok, so I lied the last time, the new websites are still on the back burner at the moment. Too busy designing weddng albums and record covers. And shooting gigs for the new 'State' magazine coming this March. We do still have a blog going but it's not all that photography related. But go have a look at 'Design in Dublin' It 's Shawnas interior design blog and it's damn good and you get to see photos of our bedroom.
11 November 2007 - updates and looking forwar to 2008
This will probably be one of the last updates on this current version of the website as a couple of new websites are in the pipeline, theIrishWeddingPhotographers.com will soon be our site dedicated to the wedding side of our work and this will stay as the home of all our music work. We've added a couple of new updates to the gallery if you fancy taking a look but there's a huge collection of stuff that's never yet been seen coming soon. Drop us an e-mail if you want any info on any aspect of our photography and we look forward to seeing you on our new look websites.
1 September 2007 - where has the summer gone?
What's that saying about all work and no play.... finally I got a weekend off from all the work that's been swamping us lately. So I'll be down at Electric Picnic sans camera, just watching bands and lazing about (hopefully in the sun) Shawna however is working for Phantom 105.2 again and hopefully will be back next week with pictures of people like Iggy Pop and Björk.
Lot's of weddings too recently, the brilliant couples, Antoin and Eileen and more recently, the lovely Adrian and Lana, we'll be putting a few of our favourites online but are making albums for them first. And speaking of albums, look out for albums in the shops from Emerald, Gráinne Duffy, Paul Sherry and DJ Spiral out soon, all with artwork photographed by us.
We're also off on our summer holidays in September, off to Seattle, but yes, we're also shooting a wedding and some concerts whilst we're there, you'd think we love being exhausted....
30 July 2007 - We do painting now.....
The summer is just so busy for us we've been neglecting our little blog, we're sorry. Some fantastic music shot since June. R.E.M. live in the Olympia for their Irish rehearsal gigs, the always entertaining Oxegen was wet and muddy but some great shots taken for Phantom 1o5.2even if we do say so ourselves. Go take a peek here.
Andfinally for this peek into our lives. The new Delorentos single has a photo of the wall of a creche in Barcelona, we're not really sure why but I guess we liked the look of it too, when taking the photo.
16 June 2007 - Rain, rain go away...
Why does it just keep on raining. We're off to the Glastonbury festival in a couple of days and we don't want to camp in the mud! We decided not to photograph at it, instead we're just going to have a well earned holiday and watch some great bands (in the mud).
It's been a busy time over the past couple of weeks with new photoshoots for the brilliant band, Codes, and live photography for bands like Ash and Mike Got Spiked. Macy Gray will be next in front of the camera on Sunday when she performs in the Olympia.
Delorentos single cover design time again and this time they've used a shot that we can't remember which of us took. Looks good and we'll be following the boys around again this weekend in Malahide Castle when they play with Arctic Monkeys.
29 May 2007 - Teaching, Shooting and Rockstars
We've finished teaching our first beginners digital photography course at e-Computer Training in Dundrum and we're looking forward to running some more of them in the future. When we have some more time that is.
We were down in Carlow in Ballykeeley House Manor last week photographing Niall and Fiona on their wedding day. A great couple and a brilliant day out for everyone involved.
Then on Sunday we were back in the photo pit to shoot Editors on the pre-album tour. Was good to hook up with them again and we spent some time photographing them in Maureens Bar in the Olympia Theatre.
We're doing lots of planning for different projects right now, all of which will be revealed over time but as always we're always looking for bands playing gigs who want photographs, bands who are in the recording studio or bands who want to make music videos. Get in touch with us and let us know your plans.
12 May 2007 - Never Enough Blog Writing Time
At the moment we've so many things on the go at the same time. Lots of house photographer duties for the Ambassador and Olympia in Dublin City Centre, teaching photographry for beginners for Vodafone and for e-Computer Training in Dundrum and of course doing the usual of taking loads of photos in between.
We also have a huge archive of pictures which occasionally we go rooting about in to find something for a publisher. It's always really good when you go back to a folder of pictures you never really looked at and find a few gems in there. For anyone in either the New York area or anyone close to a tower records worldwide, check out the next issue of the Sentimentalist for lots of our photos in print.
22 April 2007 - Brazilians, rotting houses and crying in the corner.....(and mad harpists)
Very busy times for us at the moment, two album covers are in production, one for Dublin band, Emerald, the other, the debut solo album from Grainne Duffy. It's pretty good fun travelling around the country and going into homes and finding interesting places to shoot. We were up in Monaghan photographing the Shanco frontwoman, Grainne Duffy in an old abandoned house, amazing wallpaper but rotting floorboards.
Also on the way is the album cover for Emerald, a young Dublin band. It's great to work with bands who have a clear vision of what they want their final image to look like, and this band certainly do.
Last night we were down in the Ambassador in Dublin's city centre to shoot Brazilian dance/pop/indie band, CSS. A fantasicaly fun band to photograph.
Joanna Newsome is one of those strange performers who gets pulled from her world of alternative folk to be embraced by the indie community. And we were in the Olympia Theatre recently, photographing her and her harp.
We also found time to drop down to the Olympia to photograph performers and backroom staff to announce the upcoming return of the famous on street canopy for the front of the Olympia Theatre. It's being built at the moment in Glasgow but will be returning to the classic venue in the near future.
10 April 2007 - The smell of spray paint and dust.
A little more than a week away from their debut album hitting the shops around Ireland, we appeared on the set of the new video for Delorentos. Lots of dust, tesco immitation snickers bars, the pear drop scent of spay paint and pigeon skeletons were the order of the day.
Directed and produced by Second Aspect, it was a fun day out and we'll be sharing the the photos with you as our new gallery goes online sometime soon. Here's a few teasers of the video....
7 April 2007 - Front Cover Fun
It's sunny outside, summer is on it's way, lots of easter eggs waiting to be eaten and we started this weekend with our photoshoot for The Irish Times ending up on the front page of The Ticket.
We did the shots a week ago in Sun Studios, the same place the band recorded their debut album. We'll be doing some more work for the band very soon, documenting the making of their new music video. It's brilliant to do photography for bands whose music you love and have some belief in.
In other news, we got tickets for Glastonbury, two of the 135,000 tickets that sold out in less than 2 hours! But we don't know if we can make it due to possible previous work commitments. So keep everything crossed and hopefully we'll find out next week if we can go or if we have to return our tickets....
7 March 2007 - The Gig of the Year already?
Arcade Fire played one of their last shows of their current Euopean tour in Dublin and we were there, in the Olympia taking photos for the venue as part of our position of house photographers for the classic Dublin venue.
So expect lots more photography from the Olympia and if you're visiting the venue, check out the music photography up on their walls. Shots of ours including James Brown, Paddy Casey and Nick Cave are up there.
